Follow your own home budget and forget about keeping up with the Jones’ – the Jones’ are probably broke too!
Using a pre-planned budget is the only way for you to control your money, as opposed to letting your money control you.

Without a budget, we tend to spend money randomly and unwisely, and usually wind up living beyond our means. We get into debt, then, we get further into debt in the process of trying to get out of it.
Operating without a solid home budget is like taking a long car trip without a map. You might be able to guess the right way to get there, but it’s not going to be as smooth of a journey.
One reason that many people fail to reduce their spending and streamline their budget is that they’re trying too hard to 'keep up with the Jones’.
The people in your neighborhood might have a new car or a boat. Maybe they’ve recently made some flashy improvements to their house. It’s natural to want to seem as affluent as the people around us.
But guess what? The Jones’ are probably deeply in debt! That new car wasn’t free, and odds are good they didn’t save up and pay cash for it. No, they got an auto loan for it, thus adding a few hundred dollars a month to their pile of bills.
The Jones’ credit cards are probably maxed out. Sure, the Jones’ look like they’re having a lot of fun. But you’re not there to see them look at their bills, their eyes glazed over at how much they owe. You can’t see the sinking feeling in their guts as they realize they’ll never be able to pay everything off.
Forget about the Jones’! You need to follow your own home budget and stop worrying about keeping up appearances. You don’t need a new car every two years. What are the advantages? A nice new car that is the envy of your neighbors. And the disadvantages? More debt!
Is it really worth it?
By following a smart home budget, you give yourself the edge over most of your neighbors, who are still living on credit cards and getting themselves deeper in debt.
On a budget, you can get out of debt, build savings accounts, and enjoy true financial freedom. You can make your money work for you, instead of you working for your money.
In the long run, your neighbors will be secretly envying you. Why? Because you’ll be able to truly enjoy your time with your family, with financial independence and fewer money anxieties.
