Jack Canfield, author of The Success Principles, and the co-creator of the ‘Chicken Soup’ books - this is a man who knows what he’s talking about. Anyone who wants to be financially successful would do well to listen to him.
Who better to write a self-help book on ‘success’ than a man who has made the difficult journey himself, to become a self-made multi-millionaire?
Canfield’s enthusiasm is infectious. Reading The Success Principles, you can’t help but be swept up in his positive attitude and his determination to be successful.
Positive thinking is a big part of his advice. For example, he suggests becoming an “inverse paranoid” - that is, rather than thinking the world is out to get you, convince yourself that the world is out to help you.
He offers tips and encouragement for overcoming self-doubt, defeatism, fears, and bad habits.
In his own words: “All you have to do is decide what it is you want, believe you deserve it, and practice the principles in this book.”
Of course, hard work is necessary, too, and Jack Canfield's book, The Success Principles, doesn’t shy away from that fact. Canfield doesn’t have any get-rich-quick schemes in mind.
He made his own fortune over time, starting out poor and gradually building his wealth through a series of projects and occupations. By staying positive, focused and true to his vision, he eventually realized his dream.
His recipe for success is based on optimism, ingenuity, hard work, and determination. Who could argue with those principles? Those are the very ideas that the American Dream is founded on.
The book is divided into 64 success principles, each one getting its own brief chapter. The writing is to-the-point and refreshingly down-to-earth. It’s not like attending a dry lecture; it’s like sitting down with an entertaining friend who wants to share all his best ideas with you.
Canfield has some specific things for you to do, too, such as visualizations and positive-thinking exercises. These are motivators, and they can help you get into the right frame of mind to be successful.
Is there anything new or revolutionary in here? Not really, and Canfield knows that. His purpose is not to teach you anything you didn’t already know, but to summarize the best methods of achieving success and to serve as an effective motivator and coach.
We all need a cheerleader now and then to spur us into action. The Success Principles is an excellent book in that regard. After just a few chapters, you’ll be itching to go out and conquer the world!
