Many parents choose to work at home these days so they can leave their careers to spend more time with their children and focus their attention on the needs of their families.

The number of stay at home parents, both moms and dads, single and married, has increased exponentially in the last few years. One popular work from home business is medical billing, and the great news is that it can be done by many different people with experience in any medical field.
As a medical billing agent, you work for clinics, physicians, therapists, doctors, surgeons, or any medical practice or practitioner. The job entails entering patient demographics and information, insurance information and the charges for the patients - into special medical office software.
Once the patient’s file is set up, you would then generate electronic and paper claims, mail statements to patients and follow up on unpaid claims.
When you gain a lot of experience in the field, or if you already have that experience, you can start up your own medical billing work at home company.
Even if you don't have any medical billing background, there are courses you can take to learn how to fill out the forms and software correctly, as well as learn the guidelines for national health care systems such as Medicare and Medicaid.
You will also want to take a class in medical terminology, which could be done at home through a home study/correspondence course.
Additionally, you can gain some experience if you work locally in a medical office to learn more about the billing procedures.
You will need some basic equipment to start this work at home company - a computer, printer, fax machine, medical billing software, medical claim forms and medical coding books to start, as well as a clearinghouse to submit your claims electronically.
If you need all of these things to begin, you are looking at upwards to over $5,000, but if you have experience and some of the equipment already, you could do it for half of that.
The income potential is varied depending on your clients; how many clients you have and what demographics they specialize in (how many patients do they see in a month, the type of insurance they accept, their specialties, etc.), as well as what types of services you provide as a medical billing agent from your work at home company.
There are also different ways to bill for the jobs you do - either on a per claim basis, usually charging around $3 to $6 per claim or a percentage of 8 to 10 percent of each claim. These charges will vary as well depending on your clients’ needs and the type of practice they operate.
So if this is an area that interests your, or you know you would enjoy, take the next step to creating a home based business that will add joy to you day and money in your wallet.
